From June 17 to 25, 2023, the Special Olympics World Games will take place in Berlin. About 7,000 athletes from 190 nations will be there. There will be 26 sports.  In addition, there will be a festival and other events for everyone.
The Special Olympics is the largest sports organization for people with cognitive impairment and multiple disabilities.

Opening ceremony on June 17th at Olympic Stadium

The opening ceremony on June 17, 2023  takes place at the Olympic Stadium (with admission fee). All information can be found on:

  • Travel by public transport: search for a route to "Olympiastadion" in an app or web app.  
  • Stops:
    • S-Bahnhof Olympiastadion: the station is served by the S-Bahn lines S3 and S9.
    • U Olympia-Stadion: The station is served by the subway line U2.

Closing ceremony on June 25, 2023 at the Brandenburg Gate

The closing ceremony on June 25, 2023 will take place on the west side of the Brandenburg Gate (Straße des 17. Juni). The ceremony does not cost admission. All information on:

Travel by public transport: search for a route to Brandenburger Tor in an app or web app.   

  • Stops:
    • S+U-Bahnhof Brandenburger Tor: The station is served by S-Bahn lines S1, S2, S25 and S26 and by U-Bahn line U5 and bus line 100.
    • In case of large crowds, this station may be closed. In this case, please use the station U Bundestag. The line U5 runs there. Search for a route to U Bundestag in an app or web app.

App with info about the World Games

From the beginning of June 2023 the World Games will provide an app. In this app you can find a lot of information. For example, the types of sports and the event locations. You can also buy tickets in the app. The app will be called Berlin 2023. It will be released as an update to the Berlin 22 app (Nationale Spiele Berlin 2022).

In the app, you can get  help through video directly through the VBB GuideMeGo app. Therefore, you have to install and set up the VBB GuideMeGo app first.
In the app there is also a link to this VBB page with all information about public transport during the World Games.  When you select an event location, you can press the button VBB. This will take you directly to the VBB timetable information, where you can search for a good connection. Then the event location is already listed as a destination.
